My client had long wanted to create an L-shaped office but had never found a configuration that suited the space she had. Her old rectangular desk, combined with a temporary piece of furniture, didn’t quite meet her functional needs or aesthetic expectations.

In the room, there was already a large filing cabinet she liked and a small matching bookshelf. She wanted more storage while keeping a wall space free to display her travel photos.
To optimize the budget, we prioritized reusing her existing furniture.
To add storage, we kept her filing cabinet and placed it on the left side of the back wall. We then added three kitchen cabinets to the right of it and placed a custom-cut kitchen countertop on top. The cabinet doors were painted the same color as the wall.
We also kept the bookshelf, painted its back panel to match the wall color, and installed it above the countertop on the left side. This left the right-hand section free for displaying her travel photos.
We purchased another identical kitchen countertop, which we cut into two parts to create the desktop. By adding two adjustable legs, we were able to form an L-shaped desk tailored to the client’s desired dimensions. A drawer unit was placed underneath for office supplies, and a shelf was installed below the desk to hold the printer.
This entire project cost less than $1,500, taxes included.
Now, my client has an L-shaped desk made from her existing furniture, perfectly adapted to her needs and three extra storage cabinets. She was able to reuse her large filing cabinet and bookshelf while showcasing her travel memories. She still has room for future photos and can now organize and store her office supplies efficiently. As an added bonus, the new counter provides her with additional workspace.
